Bridgeway Path

The Cardinal Greenway, the longest rail trail in Indiana Bike Trails Map, offers stunning rural scenery, wildflower fields, a gorgeously renovated depot, multiple bridges, quaint little towns, and a history steeped in the American Jazz Age. It is a journey not to be missed. Some of the earliest notes ever played by jazz greats Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Bix Beiderbecke were captured by Gennett Records in the 1920s. The tiny label, located in Richmond, Indiana’s historic Starr Piano Company building, welcomed performers from all over the world. This includes the first mixed-race recording session in American music history, which featured Jelly Roll Morton and the New Orleans River Kings. Although many notable jazz musicians got their start at Gennett, the company recorded anything that would be commercially successful, even the sounds of the passing trains. In addition to recording early sound effects albums, Gennett also released jazz, blues, gospel, country, and traditional music. Hog Calling Contest and Railroad Come Through the Middle of the House were among the titles.
