Grand Targhee Ski Resort Evaluation

We’d heard about Grand Targhee for years. So, when they eventually arrived in Jackson Hole, they spent a day skiing Targhee. This traditional ski resort has roughly 2,000 feet of vertical running over a single ridge. It has three large ski pods spread over two summits. Each run will be from top to bottom. And the upright on the two high-speed quads is good. This enables you to accumulate many vertices in a single day.
The Mount
There is a lot of land to keep you busy. It is more significant than Jackson Hole, at 2,600 acres. That 2,600 figure excludes snowcat-only terrain since it seems manageable while skiing. Because there are few trees on Fred’s Mountain, most of the land still needs development.
The absence of a crowd
Surprisingly, the ski area is seldom crowded, and it is nearly always feasible to discover untracked snow off the groomed slopes. On a powder day, it is one of the few spots on the list where you can ski powder all day rather than just a handful of runs in the morning. Fortunately, there are enough powder days and snowfalls. Because the location has just 5% of the land covered with snowmaking, it has the least snowmaking of any resort on the list. There is so much snow there that they don’t need it, which is an
The Blackfoot people
The Blackfoot chair skis are more significant than the route map, beginning on the left. Because the groomers may still be fresh in the afternoon, this area is my favorite site and sees less traffic. On one of the numerous foggy days, it’s also significantly less cloudy up top than Dreamcatcher. After the visit, the old double chair was replaced with a new quad in 2016.
The Dreamcatcher’s Symbol
The primary lift is Dreamcatcher, which has 2,000 feet of vertical. Several intermediate and advanced paths have been groomed. To the skiers’ left, the lift also gives access to hike-only terrain. The trek to the summit of “Mary’s Nipple” is brief, but the reward is 1,000 verticals of powder skiing.
Accommodation and Food

The food is minimal and mediocre. When I go skiing there, this is not something I look forward to. They ate at the large Cafeteria and the smaller Trap Bar, which is more popular with locals. There’s also a deli, which I have yet to try. But you’re not here for the cuisine, so grab a fast snack and go back out there in the snow.
The Mood
Targhee’s attitude is much friendlier and less competitive than Jackson Hole’s. They had some wonderful chairlift chats and skied with old-timers giving tours. There are many local families, racing programs, a specialized starter chair, and a “Kid Fun Zone” to amuse the youngsters.
