12 Best Ski Resorts in Colorado

by

Colorado has some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the country, and snowfall quantities may be unique after significant storms. Ski resorts range from top-tier, world-class resorts with seemingly endless terrain to family-owned, single-lift enterprises that transport skiers to groomed slopes and some of the best hike-to options in the country.

Finding the ideal resort usually boils down to personal preference, skiing tastes, ability level, price, location convenience, and even the time of year you wish to ski in Colorado. Unlike specific Utah ski slopes, all Colorado resorts are open to skiers and snowboarders.

Beaver Creek, Vail, Copper, Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, and Keystone are major Colorado ski resorts near Denver. Aspen and Steamboat Springs are slightly further away but still within driving distance of Denver. These two cities also have airports with direct flights to US destinations.

1. Vail Ski Resort

The seven back bowls keep skiers busy for an entire season. You can tear away from the lengthy groomed runs stretching around the front slope overlooking Vail. And some never venture into the back bowls.

Because of the resort’s vast and varied terrain, it can easily accommodate all levels of skiers, from beginners to specialists, and decent conditions can nearly always be found somewhere on the mountain, regardless of the weather. Beginners and intermediates prefer the front-groomed slopes, while experienced and expert skiers will enjoy the back side’s excellent tree skiing, moguls, and steeps.

Vail Ski Resort is lower than some other resorts in the area, but it still gets a lot of snow, with over 350 inches per season. In addition, the resort recently completed a massive snowmaking upgrade project, which has resulted in a more extended season
