The snow tubing slope has many lanes and a conveyor belt lift, so riders of all ages may enjoy the excitement of zooming down the hill. Boyce Park Ski Resort Provides Winter Fun

Boyce Park Ski Area may be small and located in an Allegheny County park, but it is only outside Pittsburgh and makes for a leisurely afternoon trip for locals. Lift tickets are reasonably priced, with discounts available for children, the elderly, and large groups. When you don’t have time to drive to a major ski resort, this is a convenient and inexpensive way to spend a few leisurely Saturday hours.

Boyce Park also employs snow guns to ensure that skiing ends early enough, giving season pass holders who reside nearby a significantly longer ski season. The park has nine runs featuring moguls, halfpipe, and Nastar timing runs with gates and jumps. It is, however, a beginning ski area, so don’t anticipate any death-defying black diamond runs.

Skiing Season

Boyce Park Ski Area is open, weather permitting, from mid-December to mid-March. It boasts the most hours on Saturday, when you can ski from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Skiing is available Monday afternoon, from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. through Friday, obviously night skiing because much of the ski season is dark reasonably early. Winter Fun at Boyce Park Ski Slopes and Snow Tubing

Boyce Park is one of Allegheny County’s most popular parks. It has a variety of paths and outdoor activities that may be enjoyed all year, but unlike other county parks, it is arguably best appreciated during Pittsburgh’s winters! This is because Boyce Park is home to a small winter resort with multiple trails, a tubing course, and various other outdoor activities scheduled throughout the season.

Tubing at Boyce Park

Boyce Park tubing follows a very conventional schedule. The park sells tickets for two-hour sessions throughout the day, with 30-minute pauses. A ticket grants you access to the tubing slopes for one session and often entitles you to 15-20 rides down the slopes, depending on crowd size and speed.

Boyce Park features six runs that, while not the longest in the area, are among the steepest we’ve seen. The runs here are one steady drop that allows for remarkable speed, with the only breakaway coming at the finish.

Boyce Park Ski Resort

Aside from the tubing courses, Boyce Park has a small ski park with four distinct slopes (two blue, one black diamond, and one green with a blue side loop)) and a small terrain park. They did not try these routes during the vacation, but they plan to return because it is a perfect place for beginners without paying the higher fees of other surrounding resorts.

In addition, Boyce Park hosts winter-themed workshops outside of the skiing and tubing areas regularly, and one recent activity that caught the eye was snowshoeing.  Boyce Park’s winter recreation area is tiny, but it makes up for it with reasonable costs, a fantastic tubing course, and close access to Pittsburgh. All of which they can appreciate!

Boyce Park is near Plum, Pennsylvania, about 30 minutes east of Pittsburgh. A two-hour tubing session cost $17 for Allegheny County residents and $21 for nonresidents in 2018. To help with crowd control, 100 tickets can be purchased in advance, and 200 tickets are sold for every time slot. For children to participate, they must be at least 42 (3 1/2 feet) tall.
