The fundamentals of volleyball, including serving, setting, passing, hitting, and digging, will be taught to campers. These, combined with entertaining activities and fantastic staff, make for a great summer honing your volleyball skills. The YMCA’s volleyball summer camp programs emphasize developing the four character traits of responsibility, honesty, respect, and caring. The Y’s youth sports programs enable youngsters to have super fun and make new friends while developing skills, strength, and confidence. They have experienced volunteer coaches, and staff committed to each child’s skill development in young volleyball lessons and game design and oversee each volleyball program. This sport was created in a YMCA, and your kid will love learning how to play it!
Describe The YMCA Summer Volleyball Camp
This course is intended for volleyball players with experience (at least 1-2 years). The participants’ fundamentals will improve, they’ll learn the proper techniques, and they’ll get the necessary gameplay experience. Every aspect of the game is covered, providing a solid skill base for further development after camp. Fun and participation are our main priorities. Through training and games, children learn the fundamentals of the sport while also developing the sportsmanship and values they will need to succeed. Every YMCA volleyball match starts with a pledge for young sports. Fair play, healthy competition, and family participation are things we support. Volleyball is available at the YMCA for ages 7 to 14. Depending on the age group and area, teams may be directed by YMCA staff or volunteer coaches, and practice and game schedules may change. We want to offer our standard league structure for young volleyball this summer. Registrants will determine the format for each age category. Age groups with lower enrollment rates might be switched to a program like an academy. Before the season, parents will be informed of the league structure. Our programs’ main priorities will still be keeping kids active and safe, developing players and teams, and coaching with integrity. Children may unplug and safely explore new places, activities, and concepts at YMCA camps. Children develop new skills, hobbies, and friendships at camp. Since our caring, skilled staff promotes skill development, inclusion, and a fun environment, YMCA camps have earned parents’ trust for decades.
What is the YMCA acronym?
Our Past – A Synopsis of the YMCA Movement’s History. On June 6, 1844, the Young Men’s Christian Association was established in London, England, as a reaction to the unfavorable social conditions that were emerging in the major cities towards the close of the Industrial Revolution (roughly 1750 to 1850).
In volleyball, what does YMCA stand for?
William G. Morgan is the corporal director of the Young Men’s Christian Association YMCA Holyoke Massachusetts, which created volleyball in 1895. For businesses who felt the newest game of basketball to be too physically demanding, it was designed as an indoor activity.
Can my child join their friend’s squad and play?
At the time of registration, you can specify the coach, teammate(s), and practice days that are most convenient for you. When constructing team rosters, we consider every suggestion, but we can only sometimes meet everyone’s wishes.
My kid is registered. Next, what?
Four (4) days or so before the season’s start date, you should receive the team placement for your child. Additionally, you’ll get information about the coaches, the team roster, and, if applicable, practice times. The season’s game schedule should be delivered to you around a week before the first game. Information about the team and the game is sent by email through player space.
What distinguishes open, early, and late registration?
During the early registration period, current Y members who are eligible to register are teamed first and given a discount. Players are paired up during open registration based on the requests they make during registration. Teams will be randomly assigned if a player has yet to create any requests during registration. Players will be given to groups based on available space once late registrations are processed in the order they are received. Don’t forget that the participant won’t get their jersey until the first game day.
Does my child have to be a YMCA member to take part?
No, your child does not need to be a member to play youth sports, but YMCA members get discounted registration costs and all the other perks of being a member.
Volleyball Instruction At The YMCA
Youth can improve their volleyball abilities or learn the principles of the sport in the competitive or developmental conditions provided by the YMCA’s volleyball camp. In addition to enhancing reflexes and hand-eye coordination, our volleyball camps give kids a place to make new friends who share their interests. Boys and girls will learn techniques at volleyball camp that will either enhance or shape their understanding of the game. Youth participating will acquire proper mechanics, enjoy games with friendly competition, and learn new skills.
Training Advice
Before you begin practicing or playing youth volleyball, warm up and stretch. This goes beyond simply making a few spikes or serves. Warm up your muscles by performing a few jumping jacks or a few minutes of running in place before stretching. Dynamic stretches are excellent to include in your warm-ups and a fantastic idea to try after a game, practice, or volleyball clinic because they use numerous muscle groups in a sports-specific fashion.
Who will be the trainer?
Our coaches are all unpaid volunteers. A background check, child abuse prevention instruction, and additional YMCA sports-specific training are required of every volunteer. Additionally, each coach receives a coach’s manual and must attend a pre-season meeting to go through proper YMCA protocols and standards.
Who plays for which teams are determined in what way?
Players are randomly assigned to the Greater Brandywine YMCA’s young sports teams. We strive to shuffle players around to balance teams when there are noticeable disparities in skill.
When are the matches and workouts?
There is one practice throughout the week and one game on the weekend for kids ages seven and up. The coach and the facility’s availability set the days and times of weeknight practices. On either Saturday or Sunday, children under six will participate in one method or game.
Can I meet the staff before camp starts with my camper?
In May, a parent orientation and camp opening event will be provided at each location. Location-specific times and dates apply. We will be available to assist you and offer camp bags, t-shirts, car rider tags, and an overview map of pick-up and drop-off locations. Additionally, you’ll get to know your camp counselors and enter to win a free week of camp!
Why Did We Decide To Play YMCA Volleyball?
The YMCA Volleyball emphasizes skill development, enjoyment, and a sense of community in a semi-competitive setting. Our luxurious courts offer the ideal setting for everyone to enjoy playing. Our leagues give kids the tools they need to develop into successful players and teammates. Our instructors prioritize fundamentals instruction while providing your child with the most incredible experience possible. Additionally, a youth volleyball league with volunteer coaches emphasizes teamwork, fun, and skill development in a semi-competitive setting. There will be standings and scores. We’ve changed the regulations to promote more significant equity and prevent teams from “running up the score.” Every category for rookies and up will practice once a week, with a game on Friday. Games from tournaments or make-up matches could be played on Saturday, if necessary.
When may I sign up?
The sport of volleyball is available all year long. However, there are registration deadlines for each season. For each season, the Y provides early bird discounts. The season’s registration deadlines are shown below.
- Uniforms and equipment.
- On the first day of practice, players will be given a jersey, shorts, and a pair of socks.
- Kneepads are advised as equipment (not required).
- Every two players receive one ball from the YMCA.
- Ball Type: Third, fourth, and sixth grades use volley-lite volleyball; seventh and eighth grades use official volleyballs.
When do athletes work out and compete?
Every Rookie Plus division will have a Friday game and one hour of practice each week. * If required, games may be played on Saturday and Sunday. After the final week of games of the season, a tournament will be held.
How can we learn which team our child is on?
Two weeks before the beginning of the season, emails with team assignments will be sent out. Your child’s team name, practice day, time, and location will all be listed in this email.
What Leagues And Programs Are There For Youth Volleyball?
By prioritizing family involvement, healthy competition over the competition, the worth of taking part in winning, team building and individual development, a positive self-image, a sense of fair play, and respect for others, youth sports encourage and promote healthy children, families, and communities. Families are urged to participate more actively than only as spectators by volunteering their time as coaches and serving as their children’s biggest supporters.
I cannot pay the entire program cost; is there any financial aid available?
Yes! The Y is dedicated to supplying all families with access to high-caliber, educational youth programs. Financial aid is available if the cost of youth sports stops your family from taking on a challenge. If you’re a Y member, your program scholarship is already linked to your Y account and is accessible during registration.
Are there any discounts offered to Y Members for youth sports leagues or programs?
Yes! Please click the register option for your preferred program or league and then click the activity to view prices for both Y Members and the Community to see your Y Member discount.
What clothes and volleyball equipment should my child bring?
Your youngster should bring a non-glass water bottle, dress in loose-fitting clothing, and wear closed-toed shoes (ideally athletic shoes). Knee protectors are suggested but not necessary.
What happens when games are postponed or called off because of inclement weather or power outages?
A game is deemed over after more than 50% of it has been played. We will try to reschedule a complete game for a subsequent weekend or evening. Sometimes games cannot be rescheduled due to weather conditions beyond our control, but we will try our best.
How To Select A Volleyball Camp For Your Child Over The Summer
For advice on how to select the finest volleyball camp for your daughter or son this summer, read on:
Location
She was locating a camp in the area or planning a base for a family vacation. Start your search locally or abroad with straightforward sports or zip code search.
Overnight camp vs. day camp.
This is a significant concern for many campers and parents, and the answer will ultimately depend on how old your kid is and whether they are ready for sleep-away camp. An overnight volleyball camp can be the best option if your camper wants to immerse themselves in volleyball, enjoy campus life to the fullest, meet new people, and make lifelong memories. The curriculum strikes the ideal balance between knowledgeable instruction, rigorous training, and the concentration needed for progress.
Program type.
It can be challenging for parents to determine whether a camp is a good “match” for their child’s skill level. The great news is that there is a camp for everyone because most of these camps draw participants of all skill levels and ages. However, if you’re looking to limit your choices depending on skill or age, the following are some general recommendations for the programs available:
Exist any on-site trainers?
Yes, we assign a trainer to each gym that is used. The girls will receive excellent care.
Will campers need to pass a COVID test?
Attendance will not require COVID testing.
Can parents watch camp activities?
Yes, but we let the parent and child decide that. Everyone over the age of ten will need to wear masks.
How can I obtain the session schedule?
A schedule will be published on the camp information page.
When do I need to register?
Our registration period usually begins in January of each camp year. Every year, our camps fill up more quickly. First-come, first-served processing is used for registrations. Sign up as soon as you can!
When the camps are all full, do you maintain a waitlist?
We do indeed maintain a waitlist. If there are cancellations, waitlists are held. The opportunity to join the wait list will be available after a camp session is complete. The first camper on the wait list will be contacted via phone and email in the event of a cancellation.
How quickly should I expect to hear back about my enrollment?
Online campers who register will get a confirmation email right away. You should get a confirmation email once the registration form is processed if you submit it on paper.
