History
Max Rice sold his stake in the Belton, Texas-based Rice Mill textile manufacturing facility in 1960, and he could allocate all of his time to serving as a lay Christian minister. Max and his wife Vivian established Look Up Lodge on 230 acres off of Highway 11 in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, as an extension of their evangelistic work.
Look Up Lodge was established as a Christian summer sports camp that also provided year-round weekend retreats for churches and other organizations. A location where visitors may “seek to learn from God’s Word, the function of the Church, the significance of discipleship, and the duty of the layman in the world… via Bible study, discussion, testimony, sharing, and prayer” was Rice’s vision for Look Up Lodge.
Since then, Look Up Lodge has expanded from a 50-bed retreat center to one that can accommodate 400 visitors while maintaining Rice’s original goal. Look Up Lodge’s Christian summer camp program and year-round retreats continue to minister to children, teenagers, and adults from churches all throughout the Southeast, despite the fact that they are no longer focused on sports.
Faithfully Serving
The long-term effects we have witnessed as a consequence of the work the Lord conducts in the campers are a distinctive aspect of our mission. Greg Boone, the Chief Executive Officer of Look Up Lodge, first attended Look Up as a camper in the ninth grade in 1981. He spent four years as a college student working as a summer camp counselor at Look Up Lodge.
Before taking on his current position, Zack Heard, the executive director, worked as summer staff. Additionally, a number of our top executives, including our head of guest experience, chief marketing officer, chief financial officer, and head of facilities, were campers or summer staffers who experienced a profound influence from the Lord’s work in their lives.
The relationship between campers and staff members still exists today. This past summer, two-thirds of the summer workforce had either been campers themselves or had been touched by a former Look Up employee.
Vacation Camp
They’re very convinced that’s why summer was created: endless enjoyment, wonderful experiences with friends, and growing closer to God.
The summer camp is only open to groups (not individual campers). A group might consist of two persons or more, depending on its size. Campers must be accompanied by a chaperone. They advise a camper-to-leader ratio of 8 to 1!
More than 200 church groups are welcome to Look Up Lodge each summer for an amazing Christian camping experience. 93% of our campers have such a good time that they come back the following year to repeat the experience.
From chapel time to group activities to meals, every part of your group’s week at camp is intended to leave you and your group feeling refreshed and better able to live out your faith.
The chapel services concentrate on communicating biblical truths in a setting that encourages group discussion of significant issues. F.A.Q.
Is education at a summer camp worthwhile?
Boost your sense of value.
A summer school course successfully completed might be a terrific method to demonstrate your commitment, aptitude, and desire. You will be able to overcome obstacles more successfully because of the short-term international experience and the rigorous character of the course, which will encourage you to reach your full potential.
What do summer camps hope to accomplish?
Children’s development is influenced by all of their environments, including those at home, school, and extracurricular activities. Therefore, summer camp offers an additional special setting for growth, enabling kids to develop independence and self-confidence while interacting socially, meeting new people, and even picking up new skills.
Who goes camping the most frequently?
Millennials
Millennials who live with kids are an enthusiastic set of campers: 63% of them spend more than seven nights outside annually, and two-thirds intended to spend more time outdoors in 2019. In actuality, families who camp with children are the most ardent campers overall.
What drawbacks exist with summer school?
Summer school courses move quickly, a negative.
In comparison to the spring and fall semesters, your lecturers will have to cram more into each day. The length of the classes and the difficulty of the homework can vary. There will be more frequent examinations and quizzes.
How can school camping benefit students?
The ideal setting for students to engage well with one another outside of the classroom is during school camps. Games, team sports, and teamwork exercise all foster the growth of new friendships and strengthen those that already exist.
