Southern Maryland Summer Camps is an initiative of the Department of Maryland, The American Legion, Inc., Southern Maryland District. Its goal is to offer our young people, particularly those with disabilities, camping, and recreational amenities. To promote democratic ideals and traditional values and provide students with access to the education they might not otherwise have.
What Programs Do Summer Camps In Southern Maryland Offer?
Registration is still being accepted for many summer camp programs in Southern Maryland. They comprise Calvert County Parks and Recreation’s summer youth golf program is available. There will be two sessions:
July 26–30 and Monday–July 16. Two places:
Chesapeake Hills Golf Club in Lusby, beginning at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Mallomar Golf Park in Sunderland, from 8 a.m. to noon.
Charles County Department of Community Services’ Golf Camp is held at the Henson Community Center.
Marlborough Country Club, Upper Marlboro, 9:45 a.m.–3:00 p.m., August 17–19. The campers provide the food and golf equipment. 11 to 17 years old. The registration cutoff date is July 30. The county’s community centers are all stocking registration packets.
The Leonard town Campus of the College of Southern Maryland offers a youth athletic conditioning camp. 9 a.m. to noon, July 26–29. Learn exercises and routines to improve the level of conditioning and how to train to avoid typical sports injuries in this program for kids aged 12 to 18. Soccer Camp at CSM, 22950 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, presented by Calvert County Parks & Recreation. Hallowing Point Park, Prince Frederick, from July 26–30. The coach of Northern High’s varsity girls’ soccer is Doug Jones. Calvert County Parks and Recreation is accepting registrations for separate boys’ and girls’ leagues for the fall soccer season through July 30. For all age levels, coaches are required. Calvert County Parks & Recreation’s Northern Patriot Volleyball Camp is available. Tuesday through Friday at Northern High School. The NHS Elite Eleven Football Technique Camp is run by Calvert County Parks and Recreation and is led by head varsity coach Andrea Hoover. Tuesday through Friday at Northern High School. Jerry Franks is the principal teacher and the head varsity coach at Huntingtown High. Calvert County Parks and Recreation’s boy’s lacrosse camp is available. At Calvert High School from Monday through July 16. The CHS Cavalier Contact Football Camp is run by Calvert County Parks and Recreation and is led by varsity boys’ coach Jay Haynes. Till July 17 at Calvert High School on Tuesday. Varsity football coach Ed Hottle leads Calvert County Parks and Recreation’s CHS Girls’ Lacrosse Camp. At Calvert High School, from July 19–23. The CHS Jerry Franks Contact Football Camp is run by Calvert County Parks and Recreation and is led by varsity girls’ coach Bonnie Harrison. Northern High School, July 26–29. Assistant varsity coach Jerry Franks lead Calvert County Parks & Recreation’s NHS Field Hockey Camp. August 9–13 at Prince Frederick’s Hallowing Point Park. Katie Harrington, a CHS coach, is the principal instructor.
ARTS
Annmarie Garden presents A Path to Self-Expression. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., July 26–29, for kids entering grades 6–8. Students are encouraged to reevaluate the idea of art, tap into their individuality, and discover ways to express themselves via their artwork through various activities and exercises. The garden’s walkways will be the subject of student compositions. The Mural Project, which Annmarie Garden is offering. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., until July 29, for students entering grades 9 through 12. Write an artist’s statement, plan and execute a 6-by-18-foot acrylic mural, and gain knowledge of the financial aspects of the fine arts. Michaels and Crayola’s Craft and Culture Camp is available. Ages 5-8: 9:30-11:30 a.m.; Ages 9–12: 1:30–3:30 p.m.; July 19–23. “Around the World with Crafts,” a series of arts and crafts projects that offer a glimpse into many civilizations. Campers work on two arts & crafts projects and learn about two different cultures daily. Waldorf: Michaels, 3026 Festival Way. In collaboration with “Follow Spot Productions” and other regional experts, Lori Willis offers a drama camp. Ages 7–15, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., July 19–30, St. John Vianney Catholic Family Life Center, 105 Vianney Lane, Prince Frederick (before- and after-care offered for an extra fee). The Calvert County Arts Council offers a summer visual and performing arts camp. Ages 8 to 12, 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., July 19–23. Professional artists teach classes in Pacific Island dances, beaded mosaics, and paper-mâché sculpture. Includes a stage performance on the final day and a camp T-shirt. The College of Southern Maryland is at Port Republic at 3205 Broomes Island Road. For fourth through seventh grades, Kids’ College Creative Arts Adventure teaches them how to produce original artwork using various media. 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. There are two sessions available: July 19–23 and Monday–Friday, July 5–16. 8730 Mitchell Road, College of Southern Maryland, La Plata For fourth through seventh grades, Kids’ College Creative Arts Adventure teaches them how to produce original artwork using various media. In addition to Port Discovery in Baltimore, Watkins Regional Park in Prince George’s County, the Calvert Marine Museum, and Calvert Cliffs State Park in Calvert County, campers ages 8 to 12 travel to different locations every day. Daily drop-off and pick-up in Prince Frederick are required for campers, who must also provide their packed lunch.
NURSING
From 9 a.m. to noon, July 19–23. Fifth through eighth students have the chance to experience a range of health care occupations at the College of Southern Maryland’s Kids’ College as they combat germs, see X-rays, check pulses, listen to the sounds of a heart and lungs, take a tour of Civista Medical Center, and ride in an ambulance. 8730 Mitchell Road, College of Southern Maryland, La Plata
MARITIME
28-30 July, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ages 9 to 12 can participate in the camp, which is being offered for the first time by Historic St. Mary’s City Foundation and Friends, to learn about sea life in the 1600s and earn a certificate of seamanship through a variety of programs and activities, such as knot tying, sail raising, beach cooking, trading, navigation, tale-spinning, and visiting the waterfront and the Maryland Dove.

Safety and health?
The following rules must be guided by all Science Fun families in order to create a secure camp setting this summer. Both campers and staff will wash their hands more frequently and use hand sanitizer before and after using the comfort room before and after eating and in between tasks.
Can I register my child for many camps?
Yes, of course; in fact, we promote it and provide discounts for many camps. We offer camps to every scientific interest, and the typical camper attends two of them annually.
Is payment in full required at registration?
To reserve a space for your child, you must make complete payment. Please register online so that you can pay with a credit card.
Exists a camp that is more suitable for older/younger kids?
Every camp is created for a mix of older and younger campers.
What Campgrounds Are There In Southern Maryland?
Marina & Campground Aqualand
This marina, located next to the Harry Nice Bridge, is convenient to some of the best rock fishing in the state and top-notch large-mouth bass fishing just upstream. A protected marina with a ship’s store and gas pumps is there, along with a single concrete ramp. The ships’ store sells fishing equipment and related items for fishermen’s campgrounds and serves as an official striper inspection station.
Campground and Beach at Breezy Point
Swimming, fishing, picnics, and daily and seasonal bayfront camping are available at this park on the bay. There is a restroom, a food stand, and a bathhouse. For information on camping, see Campgrounds. Wheelchairs for the beach are available in advance. For rent are beach chairs, umbrellas, kayaks, and paddle boards.
Forest of Cedarville State
For a forest demonstration area, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Forest, Park and Wildlife Service bought 2,631 acres in 1930. From April to October, families can camp. Enjoy 19.5 miles of trails for biking, hiking, and horseback riding.
State Park of Chapel Point
On the lovely Port Tobacco River, a tributary of the Potomac River, is Chapel Point, State Park. Chapel Point is an unfinished park with various uses and a waterfront with great fishing. You need a Maryland Bay Sport Tidal License. Before entering this location, be aware of the tides. There is basically no beach during high tide. Modest johnboats, canoes, kayaks, and personal watercraft can all be launched from this region’s small sand launch area. In addition to camping, fishing, hunting, and hiking are available at Chapel Point State Park.
Campground and Marina at Dennis Point
We have tent sites and seasonal, monthly, and transient campsites. Each campsite contains a picnic table and a fire pit. Reservations are necessary. Full-Service Marina with a 35 & 75 Ton Travel Lift with Mechanics on Duty During the Week. There are slips available at daily, monthly, and annual rates: on-site gas, diesel, and a boat ramp.
Marina & campground at Goose Bay
Goose Harbor is a privately-owned, full-service marina and campground situated on the Port Tobacco River at the junction of the Potomac River. It is located in a protected bay. Three boat launch ramps, a ship’s store, and facilities are present.
Cabins at Matoaka Beach
On the Chesapeake bayfront is the natural cabins. Swim, fish, crab, look for fossils, picnic, and observe birds. Sandy shore. Year-round fossil hunting.
Campground in Smallwood State Park
Under the protection of a hardwood forest, fifteen (15) family campsites with power hookups are accessible. Two cabins sleep six people, two camper cabins sleep four people each, and all have heat and air conditioning. Two locations are available for youth groups to camp; reservations are necessary. We accept Youth Group passes. Each youth group location has room for about 25 people. Each site has a 12-foot picnic table, a fire ring, and restroom facilities.
Do summer camps in Maryland need to be licensed?

In Southern Maryland, is it legal to wild camp?

The Goose Bay Marina and Campground in Welcome offers 90 sites, each with electricity and water, and is located on Goose Creek, close to the Potomac River. Some locations have water views.
State Park at Smallwood
The park offers cottages, youth group camping, and 15 campsites with electricity.

In Southern Maryland, boating and summer go hand in hand. The Dennis Point Marina and Campground in Drayden is the most convenient location if lounging on the boat is your goal.
RV in LaGrande Resort
