With facilities in Texas, South Carolina, and Georgia, Pine Cove is a Christian summer camp with a focus on the gospel. Since its inception in 1967, Pine Cove has hosted more than 40,000 campers and aspires to be a Christ-centered, others-focused, and seriously entertaining organization. Through Bible study, worship, time with their counselor, and participation in a ton of awesome camp activities, campers will have the opportunity to encounter Jesus. Your camper in first through sixth grade will undoubtedly love jumping, cheering, and dancing every single day from Monday through Friday.
The History Of Pine Cove Day Camp
Bill recalls praying in the mornings as he struggled to find direction, “Lord, I give you my life today. I’ll go in the direction you direct me. I’ll carry out your instructions. Whatever you want me to say, I will say. Bill emphasizes (profoundly, I believe) that in uttering these prayers, he was yielding to God rather than surrendering to Him. “The concept of surrendering to God’s will has never appealed to me. It sounds like you keep battling God until you can no longer fight. You submit to an enemy, but you give in to someone you revere and adore. Over the course of several years, God led Bill through a series of career transitions, “chance” encounters, strategic advice from timely mentors, and finally, a trip to the Republic National Bank in Dallas for his father, Alex McKenzie, to sign a $150,000 note (more than $1 million in today’s money). It is clear that God was compelling Bill’s love, devotion, and heart, not just ordering him to carry out an assignment by that means. The start of the summer of 1968 saw the birth of Pine Cove. I was present when Pine Cove welcomed its first campers for the summer. I can still picture 14 elementary-aged campers and 21 of us staff members arriving at the Woods dining hall for dinner. We had 18 or 20 children by the end of the week. Although it wasn’t much, it served as proof of concept for Pine Cove’s bond campaign, which garnered $250,000 from supporters of the fledgling project. By the following summer, word had spread, and the weeks had begun to fill up. That summer also saw the inaugural high school camp. Towers opened in 1971 after there were waiting for lines for the elementary-age weeks by the third summer. The Ranch then appeared. The Woods could then only be used for family camping after Shores.
In addition to a day camp in Tyler and Camp in the City programs in more than 50 locations across eight states, Pine Cove currently runs six youth camps, three family camps, and one day camp in Tyler and Columbus, Texas. In the meantime, construction has started on three new camps on South Carolina’s Lake Hartwell, which is why Bill McKenzie’s tale truly is extraordinary! The reality of Ephesians 3:20–21 is now being demonstrated by a straightforward notion that developed into a modest goal that inspired several years of fervent prayer and a great deal of labor and ultimately resulted in the launch of a small camp: God is able to accomplish far more than you could ever hope, predict, or ask for in your wildest dreams. He accomplishes this through working within us, his Spirit gently and deeply within us, rather than by forcing us around (The Message).
The wonderful tale of Pine Cove’s founding is truly the tale of our magnificent God. He achieves great things with the help of regular people. That is why the rest of us can get inspiration from this tale. Bill McKenzie serves as a wonderful example of what may occur when a regular person makes himself humbly, quietly, and persistently available to God.

All campers’ safety is a priority at Pine Cove Day Camp. Our extensive safety strategy covers activity safety, abuse prevention, weather safety, staff screening, and medical treatment. Pine Cove wants every parent to have peace of mind knowing their child is having a great time and is safe during the week at camp.

They employ methods for training, observing, and providing feedback to integrate abuse prevention into every aspect of our camp experience. The policies and practices they have in place to stop any kind of abuse are thoroughly trained in our whole workforce. These abuse prevention ideas are tested on everyone.
Excellent First Aid
A registered nurse and a health aide are always on duty at each of our camps. Every physical camp property has a medical clinic on-site and is close to a hospital (20 minutes away). Additionally, Pine Cove’s health center personnel administers all medications to campers and employees.
Fun atmosphere
Pine Cove day camp provides staff training so they can identify hazardous weather conditions and safeguard our campers and staff. They will keep a close eye on the weather and are able to alert any staff members at Pine Cove to the need to seek cover, move to higher ground, or take any other necessary action.
Finding the greatest and safest employees is a responsibility that Pine Cove takes seriously. A thorough application, a face-to-face interview, the submission of at least two references, and a background check are requirements for all applicants. Every year, background checks are conducted on all employees. Less than 17% of all applicants are hired by Pine Cove.

The Forge is Pine Cove’s leadership development program for males and females between the ages of 21 and 27. The Forge creates leaders who reflect a faith worth following and gives enthusiastic influencers the opportunity to experience the abundant life in Christ. Travel
The Forge kids will get amazing travel opportunities. Students who travel are exposed to remarkable situations and opportunities for making important decisions. Students receive unique perspectives and opportunities to learn lessons that cannot be taught in a classroom as they face the unexpected in strange settings. Each year, Forge students participate in a large number of these activities. Our 10-day study vacation in Israel served as the pinnacle of our extensive travels.

Intensive Instruction
The classroom setting is a crucial component of any education. Forge classes, however, focus on developing the God-given design within each student rather than just downloading information necessary to pass an exam, in contrast to academic courses. Teachers at Forge have a diverse range of educational backgrounds and levels of experience. The learning environment in the classroom is as engaging and difficult as it can be. Many of our students report that their time in the Forge was the most engaging and useful of their four years of college.

Men and women from all across the country live in close proximity to Forge students. Our approach uses a variety of personalities and viewpoints as its main tool for character development. As they share a living space, food, spending money, outings, and classes with one another, Forge students discover new facets of love, respect, and service without having the option to flee from conflict. Community necessitates intimacy and selflessness with one another and with other leaders, creating a setting that is frequently intimate, difficult, and genuine. Numerous chances exist in the community to live a life of giving rather than receiving.

Can my child share a cabin with another person?
Absolutely! You can ask for your camper to be in a group with up to three buddies or another special acquaintance (for a group total of four). To ensure that everyone in the cabin is included and no one feels left out, we do not permit more than four campers to request to be together in a group.
