by Leave a Comment

The Community and Economic Development Department’s Children and Youth Services Division (CYS) serves the City of Decatur Camps. The organization’s objective is intended to be accomplished through activities that promote healthy lifestyles, 21st Century skills, and technological proficiency, as well as by adhering to all program requirements to national standards for the after-school industry. The Council on Accreditation has granted national accreditation to six of seven CYS after-school programs (COA). Programs for CYS summer camps are created to inspire the holistic development of the young person, with a focus on social and emotional growth. Children’s Day Decatur Camps

The well-liked thematic Day Camps for Kids find the ideal balance between a pleasant, age-old form of entertainment and a creative, productive music curriculum. There is something in their day camp catalog for every child musician, whether they are novices or more experienced instrumentalists or singers, ages five and up, and you’ll find enough diversity to keep one kid amused and progressing if you sign up for numerous weeks. Every camp includes private instruction on the chosen instrument. This is an excellent approach for youngsters to start or continue their adventure of learning from a kind and supportive teacher how to play an instrument that is appropriate for their age.

The development of fundamental musical concepts and skills is emphasized in every program offered by CMC Atlanta in the Elementary Division. However, they concentrate Holiday and Summer Day Camps on specific genres of music and musical experiences because we are aware that no two children are alike. Some people want to play Beethoven, some people want to sing and dance in a musical, some people want to rock, and some people want to record and produce a film. Project-based learning is the most efficient for children, and camp themes enable parents and students to trust that a student’s true musical interests will be a large part of the CMC Atlanta camp experience.

Please take note that they provide performance-based Workshops and Workshop intensives for older kids in grades 6–8 and 9–12. The Summer Student Showcase, which has been held at Variety Playhouse or 7Stages Theatre in Little 5 Points for the past few years, is the most well-liked summer event for students in this category.

Camps throughout the summer.

When local public schools are closed for teacher workdays and elections, as well as during the fall, winter, and spring breaks, they offer day camps.

The Star Wars/Jedi Master twist, music school.

It’s all about music and space at this camp. Great music has been greatly influenced by the universe. Throughout history, people have believed that both cosmic order and music are reflections of one another. Space-related music and movies are the subjects of group projects and activities, including chanting, drumming, singing, and games involving music theory and concentration. They’ll cover the same fundamental concepts along the way about the cosmos, the solar system, planets, moons, stars, comets, and more. And just for fun, we’ll pull some ridiculous stunts like turning pool noodles into light sabers.

Camp for Music Theater

Musicals use well-known song genres to convey our story. They provide us with some of our favorite stories, characters, tunes, and stage moments, whether on stage or in movies. They enchant us, move us, impart valuable life lessons to us, and provide an unforgettable group experience for people of all ages.

The triple threat art form’s musical component is a major focus of the CMC Atlanta Music Theater Camp for students. Students pick scenes and songs from age-appropriate musicals based on their preferences and ideas from the faculty. Depending on their preferences, each camper is given a solo or a small ensemble role. The last day of camp features a casual music theater showcase, which the campers spend the whole week practicing for.

The campers sing a lot, and they sing a lot more. Among other things, vocal coaching addresses expression, technique, tone, intonation, blend, and harmony. Light acting instruction, minimal dancing, set design, and costuming are also included in the camp.

Reds Camp

One of the first genres of American music, the blues, has served as a major inspiration for modern pop and rock music all around the world. Its roots are in the songs and field hollers of American slaves and ex-slaves, but it has African and Southern Plantation antecedents, and it still has a redeeming and transcendental character. Although the blues has roots in religious music, Janelle Monae and the Rolling Stones wouldn’t exist without Muddy Waters and Bessie Smith. Blues music is still one of the most crucial (and enjoyable) genres for new musicians to study today because of its soulful expressions and avant-garde stylings, which have influenced innumerable modern musicians and artists.

In light of this, the Blues Camp at CMC Atlanta approaches the blues from both a historical and modern perspective. Each student will be immersed in original, early blues music from the past as well as its variations throughout musical history through a combination of private lessons and group activities. In group performance projects, campers sing, play instruments, study blues music theory, write songs, and also explore improvisation, one of the most crucial tools for a blues artist. Private vocal or instrumental lessons are offered during camp, and each camp location concludes with a casual in-house performance showcase.

Stone Camp

For the American youth, rock has been the language ever since Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and other artists first appeared on the scene in the 1950s. Its vitality and unfiltered passion make it the ideal medium for expressing oneself and fostering a sense of community.

Every day, CMC Atlanta Rock Campers jam with instructors and other campers in an effort to develop this sense of community and provide a safe space for students to interact and be themselves. The greatest way to learn how to rock is by actually doing it. We perform a range of rock genres, including hard rock, pop, progressive rock, and even classic rock. Each camper will also participate in private lessons (in voice or on their chosen instrument), fundamental music theory, songwriting, a review of rock history, and performance projects as part of our rock curriculum. Each campsite hosts a casual in-house presentation as the program’s finale for Rock Camp. If they choose, campers may participate in one and both of our two CMC Atlanta Summer Showcases, which will be held on Friday, July 20, at Atlanta Music High School (in the North Druid Hills/Brookhaven region), and Saturday, June 30, at Seven Stages. Arrangements for each camper’s family to participate in the optional Summer Showcase are made when the camper registers.

Beginners and more advanced musicians are both welcome at their camp since they are divided into groups according to age and skill level.

Camp for School House Rock music videos

Some of the most enduring television music videos ever made were for Schoolhouse Rock. Students are fully immersed in the realm of these supposedly eternal instructional pearls throughout this week. The camp is designed to execute live recreations of them. It’s a fun method to encourage children to perform musically, play instruments, drum, write and record music, plan and stage a scene or video shoot, and more. Campers work on creating music and scenes, learning parts, and practicing throughout the day. Students will engage in traditional summertime pastimes, including kickball, frisbee, four square, and ice cream store visits during morning and afternoon recesses.

Private lessons on the chosen instrument are part of the Schoolhouse Rock Camp experience. Beginners will be given the assistance they need to get going. For those who are ready, play along as the students assemble to sing the Schoolhouse Rock scores as more experienced musicians are instructed in more sophisticated concepts and techniques. All students will learn to read music and charts by using conventional method books and lead sheets from the Schoolhouse Rock library, or in the case of more seasoned musicians, enhance their reading and improv/chart rendering skills.

Regional Folk Camp

“Since country music’s inception, there has been a heated argument about what exactly constitutes it. Country music has always been about the story and the experience, even from the very beginning. It was cobbled together from English folk traditions in the hills of the Appalachian Mountains and mixed with popular and religious music with the final touch of the singer’s own experience.

The CMC Country Music Camp gives aspiring artists the tools they need to find their voices and use music to express both their own and other people’s stories. For one week, campers immerse themselves in country and folk traditions, learning about everything from old-time roots music to alt-country, outlaw, honky tonk, Nashville, and countrypolitan sounds. The camp’s curriculum includes individual instruction (voice or instrumental). Students will also take part in performance projects, learn fundamental music theory, and write songs. Each campsite hosts a casual internal presentation as the program’s finale.

Our Country and Folk Camp is open to beginners and expert students alike because they divide by age and skill level.

Piano School

All piano-related. Since its conception by Bartolomeo Cristofori in Italy in the year 1700, the piano has played an important part in many different musical genres, including classical, jazz, pop, rock, and blues. Since the middle of the 19th century, American kids have used it as the main focus of their musical instruction.

Beginners and more advanced musicians alike have the chance to improve their playing abilities as well as their understanding and awareness of music at the CMC Atlanta Piano Camp. Students will develop strong techniques, increase their understanding of the fundamentals of music, and work on a few pieces that are appropriate for their age and skill level through a combination of private lessons and group activities (singing, drumming, MusicKraft, theoretical games, and projects). Piano Camp also includes projects that introduce significant piano composers, such as Muzio Clementi, Mozart, Chopin, Thelonious Monk, and Elton John, as well as live performances by CMC Atlanta Artist Resident Teachers. The historical repertoire is introduced as well as virtuosic and well-known pieces, such as the Fur Elise, that most piano students pick up along the way.

For novices, the program is geared toward establishing a solid foundation that will support playing and further study following camp. We teach improvisation, a skill that is often neglected in piano studios, and present new solo and group compositions, more complex ideas, and techniques for more seasoned players. Even seasoned students generally start from the beginning when they attend our camp in terms of improvisation, and the majority of students like having this realm of artistic expression opened to them in a supportive environment.

Separated into groups based on age and proficiency. Both novices and advanced students are welcome.

Band Camp

Drummers are vital to many different musical ensembles since rhythm is a crucial element of most genres of music. Drummers not only determine the pace and pacing of a song (and aid other musicians in keeping the beat), but they also influence its emotion, motion, and formal structure.

Students participate in a week-long program at the CMC Atlanta Drum Camp that focuses on drum skills and musical expression. Before learning how to correctly assemble, disassemble, and set up a drum kit, students must first become familiar with the drum set itself. The camp curriculum also emphasizes stick technique because it is something that can always be improved, regardless of how long a player has been playing. We also study kick pedal technique and fundamental coordination.

While they place a strong emphasis on memorization and a sense of rhythmic flow on the drum kit, they also place a lot of emphasis on notation because any drummer needs to be able to read and apply rhythms, from the simplest to the most complex, whether they are playing a single surface drum like a pad or snare or splitting rhythms and reading them with all four limbs over an entire drum set.

Finally, students are exposed to a range of drum genres during Drum Camp. Being a versatile drummer on the drum set requires learning, listening to, and researching a variety of musical genres as well as the grooves and patterns that belong to each. Numerous musical genres, including rock, funk, shuffle, swing, reggae, Afro-Cuban, blues, second line, and drum corps, use various musical techniques. We may learn from our heroes and continue to push ourselves to develop, innovate, and try to become better musicians by listening to, learning about, and playing great music. Beginners and advanced students are also welcome because we divide our classes into groups according to age and skill level.

Chain Camp

Everyone is welcome to play the violin, viola, or cello. The CMC Atlanta String Camp is open to both beginning and more experienced musicians since we divide students into groups based on both age and proficiency.

Both novice and seasoned musicians can benefit from the opportunity to improve their playing abilities and their comprehension of musical concepts at the CMC Atlanta String Camp. Students will work on a few compositions that are appropriate for their age and skill level, develop strong techniques, and learn the fundamentals of music through a combination of private instruction and group exercises. Group activities at camp include singing, drumming, theory projects, and exercises, as well as indoor and outdoor games. The curriculum includes projects that introduce significant composers and well-known performers, a study of the historical repertoire (ranging from straightforward works that most kids learn to virtuoso masterpieces), and live performances by CMC Atlanta Artist Resident Teachers. The traditional and more modern usage of string instruments in classical, jazz, rock, and folk music also appeal to their young artists.

The instructors at CMC Atlanta give private instruction to campers. We design the curriculum for beginners to establish a solid basis that will promote the possibility of further study after camp. For more seasoned players, we provide fresh solo and group works, more complex musical ideas, and improvisation lessons—a talent undervalued in many studios. Even seasoned students generally start from the beginning when they attend our camp in terms of improvisation, and the majority of students like having this realm of artistic expression opened to them in a supportive environment.

The developmental needs of children are taken into consideration by all CMC Atlanta Day Camps for Kids. Even though the students at the camp are completely immersed in the world of strings, there are breaks throughout the day, playtime in neighboring parks, and enjoyable activities to give a suitable balance, especially during the summer.

By making it simpler for you to choose the ideal program for you or your youngster, they classified offers in our Program Catalogue by age. You maybe find it useful to have some information on the reasoning we employed when creating our applications.

The fundamental components of the CMC Atlanta program design are:

  • Studio Lessons: weekly private lessons, occasionally more frequently, with a skilled and committed musician.
  • Comprehensive Musicianship Programs (CMP): musicianship instruction that covers both group lessons and studio lessons, as well as concepts and skills. Theory, history, a listening lab, literacy, and other topics are covered in CMP training.
  • Performance & Projects put all of the training to use and motivate the learner by fostering individual and collective musical expression.

These are the fundamental components and exercises of any comprehensive music education. They are aware that different students come from various backgrounds and have varying amounts of time and other resources to commit to their training, as well as varying objectives. For novices to aspiring professionals, they offer chances. The inquiry “can a brand-new novice enroll in a program?” is by far the most frequent one we receive. Yes, beginners are accepted in almost all of their programs, to answer your question. A community music school’s fundamental purpose is to make musical instruction available to everyone who desires it. Having said that, they routinely separate pupils based on their age, abilities, and experiences. This prevents more experienced pupils from becoming frustrated, bored, or intimidated and prevents beginners from feeling intimidated.

Additionally, they changed a few things to accommodate various family schedules. For instance, we provide transportation from neighborhood public and private schools to close-by CMC Atlanta facilities through the well-liked AfterSchool Music Program (for grades K–5 and 6-8), which aids families in removing logistical obstacles to enrollment. (The traffic in Atlanta is no joke!) Students are welcome to stay with us until 6:30 p.m., at which time they can participate in all the aforementioned activities: Studio Lessons, CMP courses, Performances & Projects. For older pupils, we provide a Performance Workshop. The Performance Workshop gives teens a strong emphasis on Performance & Projects, capitalizes on their natural tendency toward social interaction, and still manages to provide them access to all three of our fundamental programming components. They also provide Studio Lessons as a stand-alone option for those who have a more constrained schedule or fewer resources to devote to their instruction. You simply visit the center on a more or less weekly basis to meet with a private teacher as scheduled. While there are more comprehensive options available, studio lessons with a skilled teacher can offer plenty of assistance for many students to achieve their requirements and initial goals. This is a common educational technique utilized across the nation to teach kids how to sing or play the piano or guitar.
