Camp Overview
More than 1.8 million low-income youngsters in New York City have received free summer experiences thanks to The Fresh Air Fund since its founding in 1877. On a lovely site 65 miles north of New York City, 3,000 children attend one of their five overnight camps each summer. Each camp provides a well-rounded experience with activities ranging from recreation, swimming, and outdoor adventure to photography, pottery, robotics, and creative writing. Over 450 staff members are employed by the Fresh Air Fund from all over the world to work at their camps in a range of jobs, and each employee is hired specifically for a Fresh Air Fund camp.
What distinguishes ABC?
A novel program for young women ages 9 to 15:
Girls ages nine to twelve live in small groups at Camp ABC, where they gain self-assurance, independence, and cooperation skills. The Precious Center for Teen Leadership has been developed by The Fresh Air Fund for 13–15-year-olds attending Camp ABC. Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire-inspired Center aims to provide young women with a secure environment where they can concentrate on their futures.
Girls Find Their Extraordinary Selves At Camp ABC
Along with discovering the outdoors and developing new abilities, campers each summer make new friends and cherish memorable memories. While dancing, playing sports, learning to swim, or performing at the talent show, campers encourage one another. However, students emphasize that Camp ABC is unique since it is a place where they may develop personally while also learning and growing. Every camper at Camp ABC goes on an overnight trip as a chance to develop their self-confidence, spend time in nature, and work on teamwork. They help and learn from one another while they climb. Most campers find hiking to be a novel outdoor experience, and they feel accomplished after completing a hike. On every trek, the campers’ favorite treat is the s’mores at the evening campfire. The Teen Leadership Program is housed in Camp ABC’s Precious Center for Teen Leadership, which also offers young women, ages 13 to 17, a secure, nurturing setting to concentrate on their personal development, leadership, and community service. It offers our Teen Leaders a secure setting where they may engage with others and concentrate on their long-term objectives. The teens take part in a variety of camp activities, including team sports, music, and art sessions, as well as workshops on leadership and teamwork. Girls’ empowerment workshops cover a wide range of subjects, including goal-setting and conflict resolution, as well as self-esteem, body image, healthy lifestyle choices, bullying, social justice, and public speaking.
Camp ABC Provides More Than Simply Summertime Entertainment For Your Children.
For more than 30 summers, Camp ABC has broadened the perspectives of young people. The grounds and its three buildings, which are situated on 2.5 acres of park-like terrain, offer a secure and enjoyable setting where imaginative play is encouraged, and art, music, and dance are essential components of the curriculum. This year, Camp ABC will be nine weeks of nonstop summer excitement for kids ages 2 to 6. We offer unique themes and activities every week. Our six classrooms, outdoor art studio, and four large playgrounds offer wonderful locations for work and play, and our spray park will be used for water play and enjoyment for both the kids and teachers. Our camp is committed to enhancing the lives of your child in a beautiful, natural environment. Your youngster has room to grow in small groups. Children love story time, games, music, nature, sports skill development, arts & crafts, and water play. Our most essential component is loving attention. Our counselors can give your child specialized attention and individualized care because our camp is small.

Day 2 Of The Clinic At Camp ABC
The excellent supper we had the previous night left the squad feeling a little lethargic initially. As soon as our leaders gave us a morning pep talk, that drowsy feeling vanished.
There are two other teams conducting clinics in addition to ours, one in Australia and one in Mexico. Before the clinic began, we produced a film to present to our OneSight friends in Australia. Visit the Insight Facebook page to see it!
Trails end, Overlook, Lakeview, Rockledge, Arrowhead, and Frontier are the six girl-only towns at Camp ABC. Due to the fact that we had lunch with the girls today, both our meal and dinner were really special. The stories that follow the lunch are even better, though!
Children Develop Characteristics At Camp ABC
Finding a way to impart crucial character traits in our children is more difficult than teaching them to do laundry or answer math problems, for example. The way we behave as we want our children to behave has a significant impact on them, and some behaviors (including kindness, thankfulness, and generosity) are learned primarily from our parents and other members of our family. However, some skills are best acquired through experiences gained away from home and without parental supervision. Experiential learning opportunities like camp provide kids the chance to grow in their independence, self-assurance, and tenacity.
Experience
Provide youngsters with a special chance to learn how much they can do without us always watching over them. They develop their independence abilities as a result of taking on more responsibility for themselves and their possessions, exercising autonomy, and making their own judgments. Many children’s first chance to encounter these things was at camp.
When a trusted adult mentor, such as a camp counselor, notices a positive quality in our child and comments on it, it can have a significant influence. Real self-confidence can be developed when someone outside of the immediate family acknowledges our child’s special characteristics and assists him in improving areas of weakness.
Grit
They all require a little grit. But how do we instill grit in a child or young adult who clearly lacks it—one who gives up when things get tough, who refuses to try anything novel or challenging, or who prefers playing endless video games to learning the piano, reading, or another skill that seems more useful—one who quits when things get difficult?
It can be challenging for parents to design situations where their kids must show grit, yet this is something that happens every day at camp. Their children hone their grit muscles at camp in a significant manner as they struggle to climb the rock wall or make their 12th effort to go up on water skis. They probably wouldn’t work as hard or for as long if our parents were watching from a distance, wearing worried faces. Children are inspired to establish goals, push themselves, and bounce back from failure time and time again while they are at camp. And it helps them hone their grit.
Only when we as parents are prepared to support our children in gaining their independence, self-confidence, and grit can the cycle of reliance be broken, and, despite what may seem counterintuitive, that development takes place most effectively when we are not present.
How Challenging Is The Trek To Annapurna Base Camp?
The climb to Annapurna Base Camp is a difficult mountain hike. More than a week over the course, you will have to walk for about 5 to 6 hours every day while toting a hefty rucksack. To make your travel easier, you should think about the Annapurna Base Camp trek packing list before you begin to pack.
It’s difficult enough to carry a sensible backpack for a lengthy mountain journey. Make sure you pack all the necessary gear and supplies when you are packing. The two seasons when the Annapurna region receives pleasant weather and tolerable temperatures are spring (March, April, and May) and fall (September, October, and November). The ideal time to travel to ABC is during these months. You’ll perspire a lot as you hike in the heat. Wear lightweight cotton clothing as a result. You won’t get sunburned if you wear t-shirts and full-sleeved shirts.
You won’t need extra warm and woolen clothing for your climb to the Annapurna Base Camp in the spring or fall. But during the night, you require thermals. Your backpack becomes lighter as a result.
