The Netherlands Has Cycle Lanes
In the Dutch traffic system, bicycle lanes are a little unique. Many streets do have on-street cycling lanes, although according to the current Dutch traffic safety regulations, they almost shouldn’t. The fact that most people do not consider painting to be infrastructure is a good thing. Why, then, do traffic managers, even in the Netherlands, maintain current cycling lanes and even install new ones? When you follow the instructions correctly, cycle lanes take up almost as much area as a separate cycle path, despite the fact that space is frequently used as an excuse.

Family-friendly Scenic Holland Bike Trails, Grand Haven, and Muskegon
This summer, we will be staying in Holland, and we are searching for a bike track that is both manageable and beautiful in the Holland, Grand Haven, and Muskegon areas. Our kids are 8 and 11, and we like a paved trail where we can see a lot of nature, whether it be by riding past beaches, along rivers, lakes, or through woodlands or by combining any of those. Thank you in advance for any advice.
There are a lot of choices. NE of Holland is Millennium Park. Since West Michigan has so many loops and other connections, I think it has the widest variety of scenic bike routes anywhere (Johnson Park has their own loop also).
Consider Kollen Park and Windmill Island as being in Holland. (After 5 p.m., entry to the island is prohibited.) Think about Grand Haven’s view from Spring Lake to the lighthouse. Take into account the Lakeside Trail in Muskegon, which connects North Muskegon with Pere Marquette Park by Lake Michigan. It might work at Ravines Park, which is south of Grand Valley University, but I can’t immediately recall how long the bike routes there are.
Consider taking the White Pine Trail from Riverside Park (or downtown GR) to Rockford, MI, if you decide to travel farther inland to Grand Rapids.
In Holland, there are a ton of choices. However, the majority are located alongside the roadways. Grand Haven is the same.
Tour de France
We all know that cycling is very popular in Holland, but did you know that Ontario also has some Dutch-style farms that you can pedal through? The 7,000 acres of reclaimed land that make up the Holland Marsh were first farmed by fifteen Dutch families in 1934. They left us with the picturesque Holland Canal Road, which looks out over rice fields ideal for growing vegetables. With stops at the Apple Orchard Farm, Pine Farm Orchards, and the rural farming community of Schomberg, depart from King City and enjoy this country journey.
Holland Spring Break Cycling Vacation
We rode bikes through tulip fields, through canals with windmills, and through coastal dunes during our family’s spring break trip to the Netherlands.
Our family went to the Netherlands for spring break in April 2022 and spent a week cycling there. Here are the specifics of our trip, including our lodging accommodations and bicycling routes.
A place we stayed
We wanted to be near the beach, so we decided to stay at Zandvoort. The bicycle routes I selected were in a decent central location at this point. As there are frequent connections to Haarlem and direct trains to Amsterdam, taking the rail is also a convenient option. The single drawback was the time it took to get to the freeway on the slow local roads. Therefore, it might not be the greatest option if you want to go quicker on your day trips.
My second top pick for travel is the attractive and energetic city of Leiden. Harlem, Lisse, The Hague, Rotterdam, or any of the other smaller villages are additional convenient choices. You might consider Katwijk Zee or Noordwijk aan Zee if you want to stay by the sea. Through SmilingHost, we leased a compact 1 BR apartment close to the beach (see on map). Our two boys slept on the sofa bed in the living room. Even though it was a little cramped for four people, we loved how convenient it was to be so close to the ocean and the major retail district. The entertaining eateries on the beach were our favorite feature of Zandvoort. The cuisine was excellent and reasonably priced, and the sunset views were breathtaking. The menus at Hippie Fish, Kayuca, and Ubuntu were all ones that we enjoyed. On the weekends and on holidays, it is best to make a reservation.
Cycle Routes Through The Dutch Keukenhof’s Tulip Fields
The best way to gain knowledge about the tulip fields near the Dutch Keukenhof gardens is by bicycle. Additionally, it is the most practical method of getting to tulip attractions like The Tulip Barn and Tulip Experience Amsterdam. The most stunning flower fields are located close to Amsterdam, and there are a number of cycling routes that you can take to see them. It’s a good idea to plan your bike route and the sights you want to visit along the way if you want to explore the tulip fields by bike.
Cycle paths through Keukenhof
Visitors to the Keukenhof Gardens are huge fans of the official cycle lanes. Due to the obvious signage, the routes are simple to follow, and you may see the gorgeous flower fields near the Keukenhof Gardens along the way. Each of the four Keukenhof cycle routes has its own color and is clearly marked.
