Paved Trails For Shared Use

The City of Fayetteville pledged to extend its network of shared-use paved trails and on-street bicycle lanes as part of its Active Transportation Plan, established in 2015, to provide trail access within half a mile of every residence. There are now more than 50 miles of paved hiking and bike paths, and more are being constructed.
Fayetteville offers the trail for you, whether you’re looking for a pleasant Saturday afternoon family ride or are planning a bike route from home to work or school. The City is full of smaller paths, loops, and spurs that offer a variety of chances for cycling exploration and adventure. The longest and most well-known trails are included below.

Fayetteville Lake

If you’re new to mountain biking or looking for a ride that the whole family can enjoy together, Lake Fayetteville is a great option. The route combines paved bike lanes surrounding the lake with singletrack that passes through wide-open hardwood forests and green meadows.

Starting from the main parking area’s right side, begin the Lake Fayetteville Loop. This round the lake in the opposite direction of clockwise. The course is simple, singletrack that is primarily smooth with a few roots here and there. With the exception of a few shortcut choices that dip down and up, there isn’t much elevation variation. To follow the main trail, stay to the right at these crossroads. Part one of the journey goes through the forests near the lake. The walk crosses a bridge and enters open grassy meadows as you move east and get closer to the botanical gardens. The trail abruptly returns to the forest next to the large Lake Fayetteville sign as you round the far north edge of the lake. Before stepping out onto Lake Fayetteville Road, take in a fresh area of pines. On the paved bikeway that follows the Lake Fayetteville Dam, the journey ends. Before arriving at the beginning location at the primary parking lot, the last section crosses a huge bridge over a spillway.
