Bike Trail Lewes DE On the western end of Cape Henlopen State Park, between the resort communities of Lewes and Rehoboth Beach, is the Junction & Breakwater Trail for bicycling. It is the third-longest rail trail in Delaware and one of the most significant 21st-century economic and fitness boosters for eastern Sussex County. The rail route connecting Lewes and Rehoboth in the middle of the nineteenth century gave rise to the name of the path. It travels along what was previously the Penn Central Rail Line, which carried travelers to several Methodist beach resorts along the Atlantic coast. On December 4, 2003, the Junction & Breakwater Trail received its official opening. It was a 3.6-mile crushed stone path that ran from Hebron Road in West Rehoboth up to the Wolfe Glade trestle. The path ceased to exist there until a new 2.4-mile route was formally inaugurated on June 4, 2007, extending the current Junction &
Riding Bicycle Along The Breakwater-Junction Trail Between Lewes And Rehoboth
A unique 17-mile circle connecting Rehoboth and Lewes, Delaware, is called the Breakwater-Junction Trail. (Uncommon because the majority of bike trails are one-way.) But it has other appealing qualities besides just being a loop. It passes several fantastic eateries, bars, and a microbrewery. Additionally, it travels via two charming seaside communities. Additionally, it passes by a park with stunning coastal views, watchtowers from World War II, and ammo bunkers dug deep into sand dunes. The only drawback is that, despite the fact that we have done it countless times, we are constantly stopping to take in the landscape, so we never get a decent workout.
It isn’t a permanent trail for only pedestrians, to be honest. Bikers must use conventional roads in Lewes and the center of Rehoboth at two locations. Although there may be a lot of traffic, the top speed restriction is 35 mph. And, if I’m being entirely honest, it’s actually two trails: the Gordon’s Pond Trail and the Breakwater-Junction Trail. But they complement each other like peanut butter and chocolate. Or chocolate and milk. Similar to the dark chocolate chips used in brownies. Or perhaps like double the amount of hot fudge on top of dark chocolate ice cream. (One of the main calorie-dense reasons I cycle is because I love chocolate The parking lot behind the Tanger Outlet Seaside complex is where we normally start the walk, heading initially towards Lewes and turning mostly to the right. The trail is made of crushed gravel at first. Even if it has previously had tiny tires, a little bit larger tires are preferable. This initial portion winds through woodland, alongside cornfields, and over a few small tidal rivers using wooden bridges. It’s kind of incredible because once you’re on the trail, you might not even be aware that you are only minutes from Rt. 1’s six lanes, where thousands of consumers are out to blow their paychecks. The Wolfe Neck Road access spot, which contains restrooms, parking, a historic home, and a bike repair shop, is two kilometers. The trail then enters a neighborhood called The Senators a little under a mile later, where you can ride along a cement walkway in the middle of the road and take in the gorgeous residences on either side, many of which have immaculate landscaping.

Lewes-Georgetown Trail
Overview
This well-liked route offers families the chance to spend quality time together while getting outside and staying healthy. It follows the former Delaware Coast Line Railroad’s rail bed.
The route begins at Gills Neck Road in Lewes, where it connects with the Junction & Breakwater Trail and proceeds north to its present termination at Cool Spring Road (Rte. 9).
You will soon reach the trailhead at its crossing of Monroe Avenue after passing a black-and-white mural on the back wall of an old power plant building, continuing past vibrantly manicured yards.
The trailhead has plenty of parking, as well as clean facilities, a kiosk with information, a place to fill up water bottles, a drinking fountain, and a place to fix bikes. As you make your way back along the route, you pass the Lewes Library, cross the frequently congested Kings Highway and Savannah Road, and then on the other side of Savannah Road, there is a kiosk with a map and a rest spot. Continue until you reach the intersection of Old Orchard Road, passing through lovely shade trees, a horse farm, and houses. Old Orchard is a busy route and needs your complete attention. On the other side of Old Orchard, more trees give shade, and the route offers a secure passage beneath Route 1, one of Delaware’s busiest roads. Along the walk, you can find benches and informational kiosks. Up to its current end at Cool Spring Road, the tree-lined corridor continues to offer relief from the summer heat and views of Sussex County’s lush, rural scenery (Rte. 9).

Lewes-Rehoboth Loop And The Georgetown-Lewes Trail In Delaware
First of all, based on all the intricate and contradicting information we gathered online, they can be highly perplexing trials. Although the initial section is known as the Georgetown-Lewes Trail, it hasn’t yet reached Georgetown, and it probably won’t for some time. Only six of the ultimate 17 miles of the route have been built as of its opening in 2016, but when they are, it will be the longest trail in Delaware. (Remember that Delaware is the second-smallest state in the nation; everything is relative.) But it seems that a particular influential Washington politician from the First State might set aside some money to finish this! There are no parking spaces and no signs indicating where the route currently starts (in Milton, Delaware). Therefore, after some aimless driving, we parked on the side of a seldom-used road (Cool Spring Road) and started hiking near the Junction with the busier route US 9 East. (The Brimming Horn Meander, which is located on the path and close to the western trailhead and has a nice address, is one to look up.) Through an open grove of very tall pine trees, whose canopies loomed approximately 30 feet above us, we set off on the smooth asphalt trail. We traveled through both new and older established communities while riding along the pancake-flat trail, where flags and flowers decorated the trail’s edge to welcome bicyclists and pedestrians.
Adventures On A Bike In Cape Henlopen State Park
On its more than 17 miles of trails, Cape Henlopen State Park provides a range of biking activities. Within the park’s 5,500+ acres, visitors can experience both the cultural and natural riches. There are still standing various historic buildings from the former Fort Miles military post, including the Fire Control Towers, which were part of the operational coastal defense system during World War II. Riders can also enjoy tidal wetlands, marine woods, and other dynamic coastal environments on trails. When you are biking at Cape Henlopen State Park, check out these paths!
Loop Park (Bicycle)
Cyclists of all skill levels can travel the 3.3-mile paved trail to discover the park’s interior. Start at the Main Beach Bathhouse, Fort Miles Historic Area, or Seaside Nature Center parking lots. Many visitors ride their bicycles counterclockwise along the Great Dune Trail, climbing it steeply between the Beach Bathhouse and Fort Miles before descending it more gradually behind the public campground. Riders will bike through the marine forest and along the ocean’s dunes. An excellent view of the Atlantic Ocean may be had from the overlook in front of the Fort Miles Battery 519 Museum.
